More Fun with a Vintage Saris

November 26, 2016

Awhile ago I went a little crazy buying vintage silk saris online (they are so cheap! and colorful! and embroidered!).  I posted previously about several of the garments that I made from them, and now I have added a couple more. The first one is a super fun maxi skirt from lekala, #4186.  It is… Read More More Fun with a Vintage Saris

James Fraser, an 18th Century Gentleman

November 19, 2016

We didn’t get pictures at the party– too busy having fun– so the quality isn’t great. As already discussed in my 18th century underwear post, and my post about my cosplay of Claire Fraser’s red dress, my approach to these costumes was to use patterns (from Reconstructing History) that are designed to reproduce 18th… Read More James Fraser, an 18th Century Gentleman

THE RED DRESS!!

November 13, 2016

I am so proud of this dress!  The is definitely one of the most challenging projects I have done.  If you have been following along, you already saw a preview of my cosplay/ historical costuming in which I talk about what goes under the dress.  Now I can tell you about the dress itself!  (I… Read More THE RED DRESS!!

Lilac Linen Shirt Dress

October 20, 2016

This is a fun little dress from some fun fabric.  The fabric is from Fabric Mart (of course) and is a lilac linen that has a plaid design.  The plaid is created by having spaces in the weave, so I have to wear it with a slip.  I actually have a slip that was made… Read More Lilac Linen Shirt Dress

18th Century Undergarments!

October 18, 2016

In case you are wondering why on earth I am sewing 18th century underwear, let me give a bit of backstory.  I love making costumes (see my last Halloween costume), and I have done a bit of cosplay in the past.  I have also thought that it might be fun to get into historical costuming,… Read More 18th Century Undergarments!

Summer “Jeans” aka Navy Linen Pants

October 6, 2016

I don’t know about you, but during hot sticky weather, the last thing I want to do is pull on a pair of jeans.  Even though it is October, we have had a couple hot days still.  Obviously I have lots of skirt and dress options, but sometimes I haven’t shaved my legs in awhile,… Read More Summer “Jeans” aka Navy Linen Pants

Sewing My Wedding Dress: Part 4, THE WEDDING!!

August 1, 2016

All the pretty pictures were taken by Julie Haider. It’s taken a bit of time to get this final post done, as we are trying to get settled into our new house, but I am so excited to finally share the pictures of this dress.  It was a long process (11 months according to my… Read More Sewing My Wedding Dress: Part 4, THE WEDDING!!

The Jacket of Many Lessons

July 15, 2016

This jacket was not my most successful project.  However, I learned a lot and I think that I will wear it despite its faults.  I figured out a long time ago that nothing I make is ever going to be perfect, but most people never notice the things that I do.  Also, these pictures were… Read More The Jacket of Many Lessons

Another Sweater for my Brand New Husband

June 14, 2016

It’s been awhile, and this post will be quick because life is a little crazy right now.  My wedding was just a couple weeks ago, and it took lots of prep beforehand and some time to recover from.  The wedding itself was absolutely amazing, and I will have a final post up about the wedding… Read More Another Sweater for my Brand New Husband

A Floral Dress for Spring!

May 6, 2016

So in love with this new dress!  This is definitely one of those projects that started with awesome fabric and a fun pattern and came out just how I imagined it! And I even finished it in time for spring!  (Sorry not sorry for all the exclamation points!) First, the fabric!!  About a year ago… Read More A Floral Dress for Spring!

About Me

I am a weaver who longs to make beautiful and useful things. I love that weaving is a very precise craft that relies on a fair amount of math. I love the motion and rhythm of winding a warp and throwing a shuttle. I love starting with a draft and seeing the design I saw in my mind become a tangible piece of cloth. My love for the my craft goes into everything that I make.

In addition to weaving, I also sew, spin, knit, and dye– almost anything fiber related!
