A Rags to Riches Shawl

July 5, 2019

I am so excited that this shawl is finally finished and so proud of what I have accomplished. Making this shawl has been a long journey– probably about 5 years long. When I started, this shawl was nothing but a bunch of really dirty mohair. We are talking so dirty that when I washed it,… Read More A Rags to Riches Shawl

Avocado’s Hidden Secret

May 10, 2019

One thing I love about natural dyes is that they turn up in the most unexpected places. For instance, would you ever guess that the pits and skins of avocados can yield light pink and peach colors? I started saving the pits and skins from the avocados we ate so I could start experimenting with… Read More Avocado’s Hidden Secret

Experiments in Ecoprinting

December 14, 2018

I have done a bit of natural dyeing in the past, and I have a beginner’s natural dye book, so I am always on the lookout for plants to dye with.  This fall I noticed that my neighbor across the street has a Japanese maple.  According to my book, The Handbook of Natural Plant Dyes,… Read More Experiments in Ecoprinting

Shibori Knit Mock Wrap Dress

December 3, 2017

This is yet another project made with fabric that I hand-dyed this summer.  This is cotton jersey (from Dharma Trading) that I folded and tied up before dyeing with indigo.  The pattern is quite similar another knit dress I made recently.  I wasn’t lying about liking mock wraps. I wanted a fairly simple pattern to… Read More Shibori Knit Mock Wrap Dress

Alabama Chanin Dress

October 10, 2017

More and more, I am drawn to projects that take a long time and involve multiple steps.  I think part of that is that you only need so many clothes and most of my wardrobe holes are filled now.  I like being able to slow down and really enjoy the process.  The creation of this… Read More Alabama Chanin Dress

More Natural Dyeing

August 20, 2017

Since my mom and I had so much fun dyeing with indigo, we were itching to do some more.  I thought about what we had on hand or could easily gather, and we decided to start out with annato and dandelion leaves. The first thing we did was mordant our silk scarves overnight.  I use… Read More More Natural Dyeing

So Much Fun with Shibori

July 5, 2017

This project has been in the works for awhile.  Actually this isn’t just one project but several.  Awhile ago (well over a year), I ordered an indigo tie dye kit from Dharma Trading.  I wanted to do some shibori-style dyeing on some silk.  I also wanted to dye some cotton jersey a solid blue… Read More So Much Fun with Shibori

Dyeing with Cochineal

May 4, 2017

In addition to all of the other crafts that I do, I also like to dabble in natural dyeing. Although there are many synthetic dyes available that make dyeing quite easy, for now I have decided to stick with natural dyes for my personal dyeing. This project has been in the works for a few… Read More Dyeing with Cochineal

Dyeing Silk With Black Walnut

July 23, 2015

I like to play around with pretty much all aspects of working with fiber and fabric.  One thing that can be really fun to play with is natural dyes.  There is tons you can do with synthetic dyes as well, but I have decided to restrict myself to natural dyes.  Part of this is for… Read More Dyeing Silk With Black Walnut

About Me

I am a weaver who longs to make beautiful and useful things. I love that weaving is a very precise craft that relies on a fair amount of math. I love the motion and rhythm of winding a warp and throwing a shuttle. I love starting with a draft and seeing the design I saw in my mind become a tangible piece of cloth. My love for the my craft goes into everything that I make.

In addition to weaving, I also sew, spin, knit, and dye– almost anything fiber related!
